Bangalore put in a scintillating performance on Thursday against Gujarat and won the game by 8 wickets. It was a must-win game for them to stay in contention for the playoffs. Despite losing the toss, Bangalore restricted Gujarat to 168 runs in the first innings.

W Hasaranga (1 for 25) was, once again, was impressive with the ball. Josh Hazlewood picked crucial wickets of Gill and Tewatia but went for 39 runs in his four overs.  Bangalore needed a good start to chase down the score and got just that. Virat Kohli returned to form just at the right time as he played a sensational knock of 73 runs in 54 balls.

Faf du Plessis, on the other hand, too played a vital hand, amassing 44 off 38. The duo stitched a 115-run opening partnership to set the tone for the win. Later, Glenn Maxwell played a crucial hand of 40 runs in just 18 deliveries to help Bangalore chase down the score in 18.4 overs.

With that win, Bangalore currently sits at number four on the points table with 8 wins in 14 matches. However, they haven’t sealed their spot for the playoffs. Their chances of reaching the top four now depend on the match between Delhi and Mumbai, scheduled to be held on Saturday.

If Delhi manage to win the match against Mumbai, then Bangalore would be knocked out of the race for the playoffs. Faf du Plessis and Co. would be wanting Mumbai to win the game so that they can qualify for the playoffs.

Amidst that, Delhi’s co-owner Parth Jindal took a slight dig at the franchise as he stated that he doesn’t need any favour from any team to reach the playoffs. For them the equation is pretty simple, i.e., ‘win the game and reach the playoffs.’

‘Never liked anyone doing any favors for us anyway - equation is simple - we win on Saturday and we get the opportunity of going further in @IPL - if we don’t - then we are out and don’t deserve to be in the playoffs, have full confidence in my boys - let’s do this Delhi Capitals’, Parth Jindal wrote on Twitter.
