Umran Malik and Kuldeep Sen, who were initially selected as the net bowlers for the 20-20 World Cup, had to delay their travel due to visa issues. While Malik has joined the Jammu and Kashmir team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), there is not much information on Kuldeep's next move yet. The pacer from Jammu and Kashmir is one of India's latest sensations and he impressed everyone with his brutal pace.
Malik made it to the headlines on the back of his stupendous performances in the 2022 edition of the Indian T20 League. The team management believed that his pace can come in handy for the Indian batters to face pacers on Australian tracks. However, the visa issue has put his travel on hold and the player will feature in SMAT against Meghalaya.
Brigadier Anil Gupta, the administrator of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) said that they will follow on with the issue and added that they would like to deal with it match by match.
"Due to some issues, Umran’s travel to Australia has been delayed and the Indian cricket board has released him for at least the first game of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, beginning Tuesday. We will take it match-by-match. For now, he will be available for the first game," Gupta was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
India win the practice match against Western Australia
The Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, arrived in Australia for the 20-20 World Cup and they played a practice match against Western Australia. The Men in Blue won the match by 13 runs, and it was Surykumar Yadav who top-scored with the bat with his 52. For the unversed, the Indian team will face Pakistan on October 23 in the campaign opener at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
India will look to avenge Pakistan for the defeat in the previous edition of the 20-20 World Cup and turn things around. The team management has sent a fresh squad this year and India have been doing well in bilaterals. The recent series win against Australia and South Africa proved to be morale-boosting and it paid off in the practice match.
