Lucknow Super Giants are now the new table toppers of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 following their win over Sunrisers Hyderabad at Lucknow's Ekana Sports City Stadium. LSG now have accumulated four points from three games, courtesy of one loss and two wins. The next game for Lucknow would be an away game at Bengaluru as they face off against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
As such, Gautam Gambhir, the Super Giants' team mentor, was seen smiling and looking content with his team's performance. Gambhir is not among the most animated people on the cricket field. Moreover, his photos of looking disappointed with Lucknow's performance against Chennai went viral. Chennai captain MS Dhoni and he have a long-going argument regarding the 2011 World Cup win for India. Although the two players and least interested, the fans have made it a thing.
Krunal Pandya won the POTM for his four wickets and 34 runs
SRH won the toss and elected to bat first, a decision they soon came to regret. The visitors could only manage 121 runs losing eight wickets from their 20 overs. Opener Anmolpreet Singh scored 31 off 26, and Rahul Tripathi complimented with 34 off 41. A final flourish by Abdul Samad, 21 off 10, took the team total to 121 at the end of 20 overs.
For the Super Giants, allrounder Krunal Pandya remained the pick of the bowlers returning with three wickets in his four overs whilst conceding just 18 runs. Veteran Amit Mishra had two scalps in the game from his four overs whilst remaining economical, conceding only 23 runs. Young guns Yash Thakur and Ravi Bishnoi returned with one wicket each.
In reply, Super Giants made a meal out of the chase but lost five wickets. Opening batter and captain KL Rahul scored 35 off 31, while star Krunal Pandya scored 34 off 23 to round off a brilliant allrounder's performance. For the Sunrisers, Adil Rashid remained the pick of the bowlers returning with two wickets for 23 runs in three overs. Pacers Umran Malik, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Bhuvneshwar Kumar returned with one wicket each, losing the game by five wickets.
