Former India cricketer, Murali Vijay is set to make his comeback in competitive cricket after a gap of one year. For the unversed, Vijay was suspended from playing the game by the Indian Cricket Board after he refused to take the COVID-19 vaccination after it was launched early last year. According to the rules set by the Indian Cricket Board, players under their contract need to be vaccinated to play.

Meanwhile, with the seventh season of the Tamil Nadu Premier League set to start on June 23. The former India opener will play for Ruby Trichy Warriors. Previously, the right-hander has played for Lyca Kovai Kings. Ahead of the tournament, the 38-year-old said that he is on his way back to competitive cricket. He said that he intends to play as long as possible.

“I am on my way back now. This year, I am participating in the TNPL. I intend to continue playing cricket for as long as possible. I simply took a personal break because I have a young family to look after. I am enjoying cricket, I am in good shape, and I am hoping to do my best for my side “Murali Vijay said.

The Tamil Nadu player added that his state team is the first champions of the domestic T20 tournament, referring to Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2006. The 61-Test player mentioned that the tournament is a gift for the state players.

“We (the Tamil Nadu team) are the first champions of the T20 format since its inception (the 2006-2007 national season). The Tamil Nadu Premier League is a gift for the state’s players. The TNPL has greatly aided young players; six to seven are currently playing in the IPL, and some have represented India “Vijay said this while welcoming Giggr as a sponsor at a TNCA event.

The TNPL will see eight players playing each other in the single-round robin tournament for a month. The final of the tournament will be played on July 31.
