The 16th edition of the Asia Cup is all set to begin on 30 August 2023. Despite Pakistan being the host, the tournament is going to be hosted as per the proposed hybrid model by the PCB. Four matches will be played in Pakistan while nine matches will be played in Sri Lanka. Due to political barriers, India will play all of their matches in Sri Lanka. The Men in Blue are in the Group A along with Pakistan and Nepal.

On 2 September, Rohit Sharma and his men will begin their campaign on 2 September against the Men in Green. Then, they will take on Nepal on 4 September. Both matches are scheduled to play at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. Now, on 21 August 2023, Team India’s squad for this upcoming Asia Cup got announced. Skipper Rohit Sharma attended the team selection meeting in Delhi with the chief selector and the former Team India international, Ajit Agarkar. 

Team India have won 7 Asia Cup titles so far

In the last edition of the Asia Cup in 2022, India failed to qualify for the final. However, that was played in the 20-20 format but, this time the tournament is all set to get played in a 50-over format. Hence, this tournament is going to be a great platform for them to get prepared for the upcoming ODI World Cup, starting in October in India.

Speaking of the squad, Rohit Sharma is all set to lead the team. Hardik Pandya will be his deputy. Both Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul made a comeback. Tilak Varma gets his maiden ODI call-up while Yuzvendra Chahal got dropped the squad. India are going with three spinners; Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav. Ishan Kishan has been selected ahead of Sanju Samson as one of the wicket-keeping options. Speaking about pacers, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammad Shami, Mohammad Siraj, and Shardul Thakur are the options. Sanju Samson has been added as a backup.
