Australia managed a great start to their chase of 384 runs on day four of the ongoing fifth Ashes Test as they finished the day with 135 runs on the board without a single wicket. However, due to rain, the majority of the play got suspended and the play got called off. But, all eyes were on Stuart Broad on day four as he announced his retirement after this match prior to the third day of play.

Broad came out to bat along with James Anderson on day four and the whole Australia team gave the veteran pacer a guard of honour. However, he failed to take any wickets by the end of the day and now, ahead of the fifth day, the England skipper, Ben Stokes came out with an emotional Instagram post on Broad. He shared a picture from previous Ashes series and wrote: ‘One last dance (with an emoji).’

Speaking of the match, so far, Australia won the toss and opted to bowl first. England scored 283 runs in their first innings and in response, the Aussies got bundled out for 295 runs, managing just a lead of 12 runs. Then, in the second innings, the home side got bundled out for 395 runs and set a target of 384 runs for the Aussies. On day five, the Aussies still need 249 runs with all 10 wickets in hand. 

Meanwhile, speaking of Broad’s retirement, after day three, he attended the press conference and revealed how he shared his decision with Stokes. Broad said: “I feel great, to be honest. I've probably been thinking for a couple of weeks and even up until last night, I was still just sat in my room, umming and ahhing, speaking to Mollie . At half-eight, I just texted Stokesy saying: 'Can I come and see you?'. I walked in, shook his hand and said: 'That's me, thanks for everything you've done for me'.”
