However, given the team and Dhoni's offenses in the ongoing season, this might not happen even f the team wins the final on May 28. Apparently, Dhoni was fined for a slow-over rate during one of the games in the league stage. Apart from this, he also tricked the umpires into delaying some time. It all started after the former India skipper summoned Matheesha Pathirana to bowl the 16th over.

Before coming to bowl, the Sri Lanka international left the field for nine minutes to nurse an undisclosed niggle. When the former Sri Lanka U19 player came to bowl, one of the on-field umpires started chatting with him about not being eligible to bowl at that point. Now, Dhoni entered the conversation and cleverly killed time so that Pathirana could bowl.

At the time of this incident, Dhoni needed Pathirana to bowl at any cost. His frontline bowlers such as Ravindra Jadeja, Maheesh Theekshana, and Deepak Chahar had bowled out. On the other hand, the three-time World Championship-winning skipper was willing to accept the monetary fine.

Notably, with the slow over-rate offense committed for the second time inside the tournament, there are high chances that he might not play the summit clash. Talking about the final, the CSKs opponents will be determined after the Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians game in the second Qualifier on May 26. The match will be played in Ahmedabad.
