Pakistan's 2023-24 Test tour of Australia is set to kick off on Thursday, December 14 in Perth. Ahead of the crucial three-match series that forms part of the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, Australian media have released the first few images of the pitch at Perth Stadium. The grass cover is comparatively less on the 22 yards and is expected to be more helpful for fast bowlers.

Speaking to CODE Sports, Perth pitch curator Isaac McDonald talked about taking off a little bit more grass on the top. He expects pace and bounce from the surface to have a cracking start to the series.

“My theory is to have it a little bit harder on top and a little bit less grass and see what impact that has on the game. Grass is pace and bounce. That’s what people are looking for and that’s essentially what I’m looking for in a really good long-format wicket," said McDonald.

Australia head coach Andrew McDonald has claimed that the Perth Test will be an "even contest between bat and ball" as the surface would generate pace and bounce. He added that Pat Cummins and Co. will have the upper hand by exposing the Men in Green on a bouncy surface.

“You talk to the fast bowlers and batters and it’s a good even contest between bat and ball, anytime there is bounce and pace in the surface. If you get in, there are runs a plenty and if you find the right line and length, there’s a reward for you as well. It always creates a fair and even contest," he said.

“I think anytime a team, in particular, coming from the subcontinent, is challenged with that first up, it makes hopefully for a slow start for them. Hopefully, we can expose them on a bouncy surface. So that is an advantage," the head coach added.
