Zaka Ashraf was in the controversial headlines after he leaked a private Whatsapp chat of the former skipper Babar Azam and it was displayed on the National TV.

In a recent piece of news for Pakistan cricket fans, Zaka Ashraf resigned as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board. He announced this decision at the end of the fourth meeting of the Management Committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board. He also chaired the fourth meeting of PCB’s Managing Committee.

“He thanked members of the MC, the PCB management, and staff for their support during this tenure. Members of the MC and the PCB management expressed their gratitude to the Chairman MC for his leadership,” reads the recently issued official press release of PCB.

“At the end of the meeting, Mr Zaka Ashraf announced that he had decided to tender his resignation as chairman and member of the MC to the honourable Patron Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar,” the statement further added quoting Zaka Ashraf.

Notably, Ashraf was continuously hitting the headlines for the last couple of months, especially during the ODI World Cup 2023, where Pakistan were going through a very dismal run and produced a horrific performance.

Faced flak after leaking former skipper Babar Azam’s private chat

In the same line of events, he came under fire for leaking a WhatsApp chat of the former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam with the COO of Pakistan Cricket Board, Salman Naseer. Following that, a lot of cricket experts, former cricketers and even cricket fans brutally criticized Zaka Ashraf for his move of leaking the chat of the national skipper and that too when the team was struggling in the ODI World Cup 2023.

Furthermore, the fans also criticized Zaka Ashraf when Babar Azam stepped down from the captaincy of the side across all the formats. A lot of cricket fans and experts believed that it was the move of the PCB chief to ask Babar Azam to resign from the captaincy.
