The IPL auction is just a few hours away and the players will be having some nervous butterflies in their stomach. As many as 164 Indian, 125 overseas and 3 players from the associate nations will go under the hammer to fill the remaining 61 spots.
While Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Aaron Finch are most likely to draw the biggest bid, one player that created a lot of buzz ahead of the auction is Mohammed Azharuddin. The destructive batsman from Kerala became an overnight sensation after smacking a magnificent 137 in the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at the Wankhede Stadium.
Talking to InsideSports, Azharuddin said that Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals called him for their trials ahead of the IPL auction which makes him feel very positive about getting selected in his maiden IPL.
Azharuddin further revealed that he wants to bat with Virat Kohli so he’ll be more than happy if the Bangalore based franchise bid for him.
"I would love to bat with Virat Kohli. So, it would be Royal Challengers Bangalore. But I would play for any team that wants me," said Mohammed Azharuddin
Azharuddin had a sensational run in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, scoring 214 runs in 5 games at an average of 53.50 and a strike rate of 194.54.
Among the franchises, Virat Kohli’s RCB have to fill the 11 slots, the maximum among all teams while Kings XI Punjab will have the highest purse of INR 53.2 crore. All eyes will be on Chennai Super Kings who need to fill the 7 slots and have INR 22.7 crore in their kitty.
