West Indies and Scotland faced off in the 20-20 World Cup on October 17, Sunday and the latter stunned the spectators with a stunning performance. Concerning the first innings, Scotland batted first and got off to a thundering start.
The Caribbean pacers, who tried all the variations, went clueless and started conceding runs even after the field restrictions were lifted. George Munsey, who opened the innings for Scotland, top-scored with the bat and remained unbeaten at 66 at the end of the first innings.
Scotland put on 160 runs for the loss of 5 wickets on the board at the end of the first innings. With regard to Caribbean bowling, Alzarri Joseph and Jason Holder starred with the ball as they picked two-for apiece.
It's a special win for us: Richie Berrington
In return, the West Indies batters started collapsing and the Scottish pacers roared with tough lines. Barring Jason Holder who scored 38 runs, the rest of the batters failed to contribute with the bat and put West Indies in deep trouble.
Scotland ended up clinching the match by 42 runs as they bowled West Indies out for 118 runs. The skipper, Berrington, who was happy with the win, said that it was a special moment and added that it would inspire the future generation. During the post-match interview, Berrington lauded the pacers for their exceptional performance and said that he was extremely proud of his boys.
“It's a special win for us. Lot of hard work has been put in for this in the last one year. Extremely proud of the boys. We haven't had as much as T20 cricket as we would have liked (Scotland played only 2 T20Is between World Cups). But we played a lot of 50 over cricket, so it was important we transferred that skill to T20 cricket,” Berrington said in the post-match interview.
“We were looking at a few more after the start we got off to. But we knew this was a competitive score. The bowlers were exceptional. Mark Watt was exceptional, in the powerplay and he generally takes big wickets. Leask today was excellent four overs on the trot,” said the skipper further.
