On 4 August 2023, Southern Brave (SB) took on Welsh Fire (WF) in the fifth match of the ongoing The Hundred Men’s Competition in Southampton. SB lost their first match while WF registered victory in their first game. So, SB were looking for a win while SB were looking to continue their momentum.
But, SF managed to win the game by just two runs and Chris Jordan bagged the Player of the Match award for playing a match-winning knock while batting first. Speaking of the match, the WF skipper, Tom Abell won the toss and opted to field first. The decision turned out to be a great one for Welse Fire as SB lost their eight wickets for 76 runs after 76 balls.
“Once they got going, I just tried to keep entertaining them.” - Chris Jordan
But, Chris Jordan had some other plans as he played some outrageous shots and remained not out on 70* runs off 32 balls, including three fours and seven fours. His knock helped his team to reach the 147-run mark after 100 balls for eight wickets. In reply, WF managed to score just 145 runs and lost the game by just two runs. Tymal Mills, Rehan Ahmed, and Craig Overton took two wickets each. Along with them, George Garton grabbed one wicket. After this win, both teams have now won one game each in two games.
After winning the Player of the Match award, Jordan said: "I think I tweaked the calf. That's part of parcel of life. Really happy I got the job done. I tried to take it as deep as possible. I obviously got on a roll and then just kept it going. The key was just commitment, really. The crowd here is always amazing. Once they got going, I just tried to keep entertaining them. I thought the boys bowled really well. Everyone played a role and stepped up."
Here is how fans have reacted to the blistering knock from Chris Jordan:
