The ODI World Cup is all set to take place in India later this year. However, the schedule is yet to come as some reported draft has come out so far. The tournament will run from 5 October to 19 November 2023. But, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) raised some concerns regarding their reported venues.
As per the draft, Pakistan will face Australia in Bangalore while will face Afghanistan in Chennai. But, reports suggested that PCB want to inter-swap these matches’ venues as it would make them favourites going into the game. Now, regarding that, Team India spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin opened up on his YouTube channel.
“Maybe if Pakistan have given some valid security reasons, then it might be shifted.” - Ravichandran Ashwin
He said that the Apex Council of Cricket might not accept their request as Pakistan have not shown any valid security concerns for the interchange of venues. In 2016, due to only security concerns, the India vs Pakistan clash got shifted to Eden Gardens, Kolkata from Dharamsala in the 20-20 World Cup. He said: "Pakistan, in their request letter itself, have mentioned that conditions will favor Afghanistan in Chennai. So, by changing venues, it plays into an advantage for Pakistan. So, I highly doubt that the Governing Body of Cricket will heed to this request.”
“Maybe if Pakistan have given some valid security reasons, then it might be shifted. Another important thing. Pakistan’s interesting request to switch venues. The fixture now is, Pakistan playing Australia in Bangalore and Afghanistan in Chennai. They want the venues interchanged. Only for security reasons, the Apex Council of Cricket will consider these requests. In the 2016 20-20 WC, India vs Pakistan was slated to happen in Dharamsala but for security reasons, it got shifted to Kolkata," he added. However, Ashwin is currently busy playing in the ongoing Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) for Dindigul Dragons. In three matches, he has taken three wickets so far. However, he did not get a chance in the playing XI of Team India while facing the Aussies in the WTC final.
