Bangladesh's ODI captain, Tamim Iqbal's sudden retirement has sent shockwaves in the cricketing world, certainly in Bangladesh's. The southpaw drew curtains to his extensive career in an emotional press conference on Thursday, July 6th. Since then, fans and fellow colleagues are trying to make sense of the big decision. Given that the ODI World Cup 2023 is just around the corner, this decision turns even more so mystifying.
Former Bangladesh captain, Shakib Al Hasan who has been by the side of Iqbal throughout his career has now made a moving Facebook post for Iqbal. The post has sent fans into an emotional outburst as it highlights Bangladesh's successful times.
The post began with a recall of their initial days on the national side. "From 2003, we took our first steps together at Under 15 level playing for Bangladesh's national team and shared our dreams and goals together to build a formidable bond and friendship over 20 years," Shakib wrote.
"We, among many others, sacrificed a lot to take Bangladesh cricket to the next level and your passion and aggression has helped inspire many more. We believed and relied on each other's strengths to achieve a common goal - to win for our country," continued Al- Hasan.
"Your runs and records speak for themselves and we, as teammates, are immensely proud of everything you have accomplished as a player," Shakib added.
It's going to be strange - Shakib Al Hasan
Hasan went on to claim that it would be strange for him to not play with Iqbal anymore. He however respected Iqbal's decision and wished him a happy retired life.
"It's going to be strange to not be in the middle with you anymore...but your fire will be inside us all when we step into every battle. May you continue to cross boundaries and hit sixes in life and enjoy new moments with your loved ones," Shakib concluded.
