India will take on Australia in a three-match ODI series that will be played in India. For the Kangaroos, the big update is that Mitchell Starc will miss the first ODI against India. The left-arm pacer did not play in the ODI series against South Africa. Starc had sustained an injury in the Ashes that took place recently.
Australian skipper Pat Cummins also said that he is fit and rearing to go for the series. The speedster also confirmed that Glenn Maxwell would be missing the first ODI. The first ODI will be played at the Punjab Association Cricket Stadium in Mohali. Steve Smith, along with Maxwell, Starc and Cummins, who had missed the series against South Africa, will be back for the series against India.
“I am feeling pretty good, my wrist is all healed now. I am hoping to play all three games. Starc won’t be playing tomorrow, hope he will be well bowled later in the series, same with Maxwell. We are trying to have a balance between getting a match time to everyone in the middle as we are going to the World Cup in a couple of weeks,” Cummins said at the pre-match press conference.
Steve Smith seems 100 per cent fit - Pat Cummins
“He (Steve Smith) is all good, he will play tomorrow, he has a few hits and his wrist seems 100 per cent fit,” The Australian skipper said. Talking about the team composition ahead of the first ODI Cummins said that four bowlers would be there in the Australian playing XI and Adam Zampa would come in as the wrist-spinning option.
Cummins and Smith were out with wrist injuries that they sustained in Ashes 2023. Starc has been laid low with shoulder and groin soreness. The Kangaroos lost a hard-fought ODI series against South Africa 3-2. Travis Head was also hit with an injured finger which ruled him out of the first half of the World Cup.

They are resting their main players. Basically nobody wants to play this series and get injured before the world cup.

Just rest him for the whole series. Precautions are better than cure. Recent series vs @ProteasMenCSA have revealed that they need #Starc and #Cummins #WorldCup2023
