Team India’s main focus is on the 2023 ODI World Cup as they will look to win their first major trophy since 2013. They won the last ODI World Cup at home in 2011. So, they will look to win this time around also but for now, they are preparing for the upcoming Asia Cup, starting on 30 August.

The Indian Cricket Board announced an 18-member squad for the Asia Cup including Sanju Samson as the only standby player, as a cover for KL Rahul who sustained a niggle recently as per the chief selector Ajit Agarkar. Now, reports have come out that the Team India squad for the ODI World Cup is set to come out on 3 September.   

India are with Pakistan and Nepal in Group A in the upcoming Asia Cup 

Notably, India will begin their Asia Cup campaign on 2 September against arch-rivals Pakistan in Sri Lanka. So, it will be interesting to see which players can make a cut as it is most likely to be a 15-member squad for the mega event. Still, as per the rule, the Men in Blue can make further changes to the squad until 28 September. After the Asia Cup, India are scheduled to play a three-match ODI series at home against Australia from 21 to 27 September. However, some standby players are likely to be announced along with the provisional squad due to the uncertainty of the fitness of some players like KL Rahul.

Meanwhile, in the last few days, many former cricketers like Matthew Hayden named his preferred Team India squad for the World Cup. But, he selected Samson in the squad while leaving Kuldeep Yadav. However. Yadav is in the Asia Cup squad and the whole team are currently preparing for the Asia Cup as they are going through fitness and skill training at a special preparatory camp in Alur, near Bengaluru. Both KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer were seen batting also.
