Bangalore have been fairly decent in the Indian T20 league 2022 so far. While they lost their opening encounter to Punjab in a high-scoring thriller, they held their nerves in a low-scoring encounter against Kolkata to win their first game of this season. Fans of the franchise would be hoping to see their side win their maiden title this time around.
Bangalore's next match is against Rajasthan on April 5. After which, they are scheduled to play Mumbai on April 9. In what comes as a major boost for Bangalore, their Director of Cricket Mike Hesson has confirmed that Glenn Maxwell will be available for the Bangalore-based franchise's fourth game against Mumbai. He confirmed that the all-rounder won't be available for Bangalore's upcoming game against Rajasthan.
Although Maxwell has joined the franchise's camp after completing his three-day quarantine, he can't feature in any game before April 6. This is due to the rules laid down by Cricket Australia. Although Maxwell isn't a part of Australia's limited-overs squad, the clause doesn't permit him to play until their tour to Pakistan is officially complete.
"It's pretty clear from Cricket Australia's point of view that no contracted players are available before the 6th of April. So, regardless of when they arrive here, they can't play before the 6th of April. We have been well aware of that as every other side. We have planned for that. Maxi (Maxwell) will be with us and available from the 9th," said Mike Hesson in a video posted by Bangalore's official Twitter account.
Thus, Maxwell will play his first game of the 2022 edition on April 9. The aggressive all-rounder was one of the three players to have been retained by the franchise ahead of the mega auction. He was absolutely superb for Bangalore during the previous edition. As a matter of fact, he was Bangalore's leading run-scorer.
During the 2021 edition, Maxwell scored 513 runs in 14 innings at an average of 42.75. He was the fifth-highest run-getter of the previous edition. However, his services will be dearly missed against the Rajasthan-based franchise as they have been in superb form of late. The 2008-champions have won both their games, and are currently placed at the top of the points table.
