Mitchell Marsh has been in the form of his life. Ever since he was promoted to the number three spot in Australia's T20I side, he has been scoring runs for fun. He played a crucial role in ensuring that Australia win the 20-20 World Cup 2021.
This prompted Delhi to bid for him during the mega auction. They managed to acquire his services for INR 6.50 crore. However, in what comes as a major scare for the franchise, Marsh has suffered a hip injury. It is to be noted that he was a part of Australia's squad for the Pakistan series.
While he was expected to feature in the first ODI against the Asian nation, this injury means that he might get ruled out of the three-match ODI series. Australia's limited-overs skipper Aaron Finch confirmed Marsh's injury and stated that the all-rounder sustained it during a fielding drill.
"I don't think he'll be available for this series based on how he was feeling yesterday. He sustained that yesterday in a fielding drill. It was a high intensity, lateral movement drill. He bent down to pick it up one-handed and went to throw and felt a twinge in his hip flexor," said Aaron Finch, as quoted by Cricket.com.au.
Cameron Green is expected to replace Marsh in the XI. Earlier Steve Smith was ruled out of the limited-overs series due to an elbow injury. However, it was just a precautionary move. As far as Marsh is concerned, then this isn't the first time that he has sustained an injury during the time of an Indian T20 league edition.
Thus, Delhi's fans would be hoping that the batting all-rounder recovers in time in order to feature in the 2022 edition. He is expected to start in their XI. The Australians can take part in the Indian T20 League after April 6. Nevertheless, the Rishabh Pant-led side did win their opening encounter, even without the presence of a few of their other overseas stars.
