Indian star player Deepak Chahar has been in the news recently for his brilliant all-round performances on the field. He has been great with both bat and ball for his national side. Deepak Chahar was an integral part of Chennai’s title-winning effort in the 2021 season of the Indian T20 League. After this, the Chennai team had to let him off because of limitations in the retention policy of the league. The performances of the all-rounder in the previous season of the league, followed by his excellent international run, saw a great bidding war for him in the mega auction ahead of Indian T20 League 2022.
Four teams, namely Rajasthan, Delhi, Hyderabad and Chennai went all out for Deepak in the auction. Ultimately Chennai bagged Chahar for 14Cr INR. Chennai received a huge shock when news came out that Chahar has sustained a quadricep tear in the recently concluded series against West Indies. Reports were out that Chahar would undergo surgery for the injury and would miss out on a majority of the upcoming season of the Indian T20 League.
Chahar walked off during the third ODI versus West Indies, during a brilliant bowling performance where he already chipped away with the wickets of Kyle Mayers and Shai Hope. This was followed by news of him being ruled out of the Sri Lanka Series.
According to reports, Chahar is undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. It is believed that Chahar is not going to undergo surgery for his injury and could be expected to return on the field in the yellow jersey by mid-April. This would mean he will miss the initial matches for the franchise. However, the news can be taken as a positive one as Chahar still will be able to play a significant amount of matches for the team, which looked unlikely a few days ago.
