According to the reports, Chennai's new-ball bowler Deepak Chahar has started practicing in the nets ahead of the Indian T20 League. Chahar sustained a quadriceps injury during a T20I game against the West Indies last month. Since then, he hasn't played a game of cricket as he missed out on the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. The right-arm medium pacer has been recovering from the injury at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Chennai has high hopes for the Agra-born which was visible during the mega auction last month. The player was bought by the franchise at a price of 14 crores INR. At the auction, the four-time winners fought with teams such as Delhi, Rajasthan, and Hyderabad to acquire his services. The Rajasthan player has been part of the team since 2018 and has been phenomenal with the bat and ball.

From 2018 to 2021, the bowling all-rounder has played 60 games and has 58 scalps to his name averaging 29.19, striking at 22.44, and an economy of 7.80. With the bat, the 29-year-old has scored 79 runs striking at 138.60 with a highest score of 39. Notably, he was reported to miss out on the major chunk of the 15th season.
This news might bring a sigh of relief for the team and its fans. It will be interesting to see when the 63 ITL-player becomes available to play for the four-time winners. Talking about the team, the defending champions will start their campaign against last year finalists Kolkata on March 26. Last year, the Yellow Brigade beat the Men In Purple and Gold by 27 runs in the final. Both teams will be looking forward to start their campaign on a winning note at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
This year, Ravindra Jadeja will lead the Chennai side while Shreyas Iyer will lead the Kolkata side.
