The former India U19 player's journey in the last few years was not been an easy one. Ahead of 2015-16, the then 18-year-old moved to Uttar Pradesh, albeit being unhappy with his father's decision of switching teams. The teenage prodigy at the time started well with 155 run-innings for U.P. However, everything started going downhill for the youngster in the next few years.

After playing limited games for U.P, he made his comeback for his city of birth albeit after completing the cooling-off period. In early 2020, the 24-year-old donned the Mumbai shirt once again after five years. He didn't have a great start as he could score only eight runs against Karnataka. At this stage, Khan thought he will be dropped.

However, he got a long rope after scoring unbeaten 71 runs in the same game where Karnataka pacers shared nine wickets among themselves. The middle-order batter followed with unbeaten 301, 336 not out, 78, and 171 in his comeback year for the 41-time Ranji winners. The former Mumbai U19 player had a forced break from the red-ball game due to COVID -19 pandemic for good two years.
