Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has achieved the number one status across formats. On Wednesday, the 30-year-old became the world number 1 bowler in Test cricket. Jasprit Bumrah was pivotal in India’s 106-run win over England at Visakhapatnam.
With the figure of 9/91 during the match, Jasprit Bumrah helped India draw the series level at 1-1. Ahead of the third Test in Rajkot, there are reports that the pace sensation may be given the game off.
The third Test of the series is set to be held in Rajkot starting on the 15th of February. India’s selection committee are set to meet soon to pick the team for the final three games. There are rumours that Virat Kohli may not take part in any of the games due to personal issues.
Jasprit Bumrah basking in glory –
After India won the Visakhapatnam Test, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was beaming with delight. The 30-year-old was given the Man of the Match award for his amazing performance with the ball.
At the end of the game, Bumrah was asked about his competition with James Anderson. India’s bowling ace replied, “Before a cricketer, I’m a fast bowling fan. If somebody’s doing well, kudos to them. I look at the situation, at the wicket, and think what my options are. I should not be a one-trick pony.”
In the absence of Mohammed Shami, the onus is on Bumrah to lead the Indian pace attack. To which Bumrah said, “We are going through a transition so I feel it is my responsibility to help them in any way I can."
Visakhapatnam saw one of the best deliveries seen in India for a long time. Ollie Pope saw his stumps on the ground thanks to an amazing Yorker by Jasprit Bumrah. That delivery earned a lot of praise from prominent voices in the cricketing fraternity.
“As a youngster, Yorker is the first delivery I learned. I used to think that was the only way to get wickets,” Bumrah remarked. With India short of fast bowling resources, the role of Jasprit Bumrah will be huge in the next few games of this series.
