Madhya Pradesh reach the Ranji Trophy final for the first time in 23 years

Madhya Pradesh seals a final berth in this year's Ranji trophy after defeating Bengal by 174 runs in the semi final

A memorable day for the Madhya Pradesh Ranji team as they managed to seal a final berth in this year’s Ranji trophy against Mumbai. It will be their first-ever final in 23 years as they defeated the Bengal side by 174 runs. Both Kumar Karthikeya and Himanshu Mantri were superb in this match to ensure their side’s victory over Bengal.

In the fourth innings of the match, Bengal was asked to chase down a target of 350 runs. But, Kumar Karthikeya bowled superbly as he grabbed five wickets for 67 runs. It bundled out Bengal at a score of 175 runs in 65.2 overs only. Karthikeya managed to pick up eight wickets in the match.

Speaking about the match, Madhya Pradesh’s skipper Aditya Shrivastava won the toss and elected to bat first. They put up a fighting score of 341 runs in the first innings, thanks to Mantri’s 165 runs and Akshat Raghuwanshi’s 63 runs. In reply, Bengal fell to take the lead as they got bundled out for 273 runs. Manoj Tiwary (102 off 211 balls) and Shahbaz Ahmed (116 off 209 balls) were the lone fighters from the Bengal side.

In the second innings of Madhya Pradesh, captain Aditya (82 runs) and Rajat Patidar (79 runs) played well to score 281 runs for their team. After scoring a ton, Shahbaz Ahmed had a brilliant outing with the ball also as he picked up eight wickets also in this match. After that, while chasing the target of 350 runs, Bengal lost all their wickets for 175 runs. Bengal captain, Abhimanyu Easwaran scored a fighting 78 runs but Bengal batters fell into the trap of Kumar Kartikeya’s spin web.

Speaking about the other semi-final, Mumbai came out as victorious over Uttar Pradesh as their first-innings lead proved as an advantage. Hardik Tamore and Yashasvi Jaiswal both scored hundreds as Mumbai posted 393 runs. In reply, Uttar Pradesh got bowled out for 180 runs only. Now, Mumbai will lock horns with Madhya Pradesh on 22 June 2022 (Wednesday) in this year's final.
