India and Australia are playing in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final match at London's Kennington Oval. The Australian side appears to be in the lead after the conclusion of the three-day match, but Indian star allrounder Shardul Thakur's statement has caused a stir in the interim.

Australia scored 123 runs in its second innings throughout the course of the three-day match while losing 4 wickets. The total lead held by kangaroos now stands at 296 runs. Thakur, who scored a half-century in the first innings, has made a significant comment following the conclusion of the third day's play.

“Well, cricket is a funny game. You can never say what is the right total and this one-off game, especially major world finals, you never know, I mean, who can handle the pressure better out there, one good partnership when you can even chase down 450 or maybe more than that,” Shardul was quoted as saying by India Today.

In his Test career, Thakur has already smashed his fourth half-century. He has one half-century in Australia and three in England and has established such a fantastic record with this that he has joined legendary Kapil Dev's club. As an Indian batsman batting at No. 8 or lower in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia) nations, Thakur is currently among the players with the most fifty-plus scores. In just his 13th Test innings, he earned a spot in the exclusive club of Harbhajan Singh, Kiran More, and Kapil Dev. However, he further added said that the team will aim to chase any target.

“Last year England chased 400 here and they did not lose too many wickets. So that's a positive sign for us. Whatever they put up on the board, it's too early to make any predictions. We see a lot of times in Test cricket that the game changes within an hour. So yes, we like to be optimistic tomorrow going on the field. And yeah, we'll take it on from there. We didn't decide anything. There was no situation to decide anything. We just had to absorb the pressure. We were talking to each other a lot,” Shardul added.
