The Dambulla Giants will be up against Jaffna Kings in Qualifier 2 of the Lanka Premier League (LPL). After dominating teams in the league stage of the tournament, the Kings have faltered a bit. They lost their last league match against Galle Gladiators and then went down to the same opponents by a massive margin of 64 runs in Qualifier 2.
In both the losses, the batters failed to put up a challenging score. The big guns, Tom Kohler-Cadmore. Thisara Perera, Shoaib Malik, and Avishka Fernando didn’t get going. The players have been the catalyst of the team doing well in the LPL so far. The spin twins Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga too had a rare failure against Gladiators. However, they still look a very strong team.
Meanwhile, the Giants won their Eliminator against Colombo Stars by six wickets. Much of their success has revolved around the start opening batter Philip Salt has provided. However, Janith Liyanage stepped up in the last game and helped the team cruise to a win.
In the bowling, leg spinner Imran Tahir has been brilliant and is the second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament. The Giants have managed to peak at the right time and are looking a well-oiled unit.
