Season 2 of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) got underway on Sunday (December 4). The first match saw Galle Gladiators cruise to a 54 runs victory over Jaffna Kings. The second match will see Dambulla Giants crossing swords with Kandy Warriors at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
The Giants have roped in a strong set of players, with Dasun Shanaka leading the charge. Shanaka didn’t have the greatest of the 20-20 World Cup as he failed to lead Sri Lanka to the knockouts. His performances with the bat and ball were also below par. The all-rounder though returns to familiar territory and will hope to contribute to the team's cause.
Apart from Shanaka, the Giants have Imran Tahir, Nuwan Pradeep, Niroshan Dickwella, and Sohaib Maqsood. The squad looks well-rounded and have enough match winners. Tahir, who is a seasoned campaigner in the T20 format, will look to spin a web. Maqsood and Dickwella come with a reputation to give the ball a real whack. The giants will aim to start well.
Kandy Warriors will also be keen to start their campaign on a good note. Led by Asela Gunaratne, the team have the likes of Mohammad Irfan, Phil Salt, Lahiru Kumara, and Charith Asalanka. Rovman Powell, Angelo Perera. A few players were part of the Abu Dhabi T10 League and delivered some fine performances. Overall, it's set up for a cracking encounter.
