All eyes were on Pakistan skipper, Babar Azam on 23 March 2023 when the draft for The Hundred tournament took place. He registered his name for the tournament despite being unsold in the last edition in 2022. His reserve price was £125,000. But, unfortunately, no teams showed any interest in him.

The tournament clashed with Pakistan’s international commitments and as a result, franchises might be thought not to show interest in the star batter. This time, Babar Azam entered the draft with a reserve price of £100,000. But, again, no franchises showed any interest in him. Seeing that, fans went crazy and shared some funny tweets on the social media platform.

Babar Azam still has to wait to play in The Hundred tournament

Meanwhile, before the draft, the organizing committee of the tournament arranged a fan poll where audiences voted. As per their votes, Babar Azam was the most popular cricketer among others with 25% of the votes. But, the franchise had other thoughts and they completely ignored the Pakistan skipper for the second year running. Along with him, Mohammad Rizwan also failed to find any takers. Global T20 superstars Kieron Pollard and Andre Russell also went unsold. From Pakistan, Welsh Fire picked both Shaheen Shah Afridi (£100,000)and Haris Rauf (£60,000)

Speaking of Babar Azam, he recently played in the Pakistan Super League (PSL 8). He was the skipper of Peshawar Zalmi. However, they failed to win eliminator 2 against the eventual winner, Lahore Qalandars. Babar scored 522 runs in 11 matches, at an average of 52.20 along with a strike rate of 145.40. It was another outstanding tournament for the Zalmi skipper with the bat. Compare to the last few 20-20 Tournaments, Babar improved his overall strike rate in the tournament. Still, he got criticism over it from fans and some former cricketers. The Hundred tournament will kick off on 1 August 2023 and it will run until 27 August.
