On 2 April 2023, Bangalore took on Mumbai in the ongoing Indian T20 League at the Chinnaswamy stadium. In the last season, Mumbai finished in the last position of the table while Bangalore lost the second qualifier against the Rajasthan franchise. So, both fans were expecting a winning start from their respective teams.

However, Mumbai have failed to win their opening game since the 2013 edition of the tournament. So, it was a worrying sign for them going into the match. Speaking of the match, Faf du Plessis won the toss and asked Mumbai to bat first. The skipper Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan came out to open the innings.

Bangalore defeated Mumbai by eight wickets

Bangalore bowlers began the match with the full flow as they took three wickets for just 20 runs. Rohit scored just one run off 10 balls and Ishan Kishan scored 10 runs off 13 balls. Debutant Cameron Green also failed as he scored five runs off four balls. But, it was Tilak Varma who lit up the Chinnaswamy stadium with his different range of shots. He scored 84* runs off 46 balls, including nine fours and four sixes. His innings helped Mumbai to post 171 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs. For Bangalore, Mohammed Siraj, Reece Topley, Michael Bracewell, Akash Deep, and Harshal Patel took one wicket each. But, Karn Sharma took two wickets.

In reply, Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis came out as openers. Both of them gave a solid start as they reached 100 runs in just 10.3 overs. Finally, du Plessis got out after scoring 73 runs off 43 balls, including five fours and six sixes. Virat Kohli scored 82* runs off 49 balls and ensured Bangalore’s victory over Mumbai by eight wickets. Thus, Mumbai suffered a heavy loss in another opening game of the season. Seeing such a performance, fans went crazy and shared their views on the social media platform.
