They defeated the Blackcaps by seven wickets and it turned out to be their first-ever win over New Zealand in any format. It was even their first T20I win In Dubai. UAE chased down the 143-run target in just 15.4 overs
Mark Chapman was the lone warrior as he scored 63 runs off 46 balls. For UAE, Aayan Afzal Khan took three wickets for 20 runs in four overs. In reply, Waseem smashed 55 runs off 29 balls while Asif Khan remained not out on 48* runs off 29 balls, including five fours and one six. Thus, they chased down the target in just 15.4 overs with seven wickets in hand. Aayan won the Player of the Match award for his exceptional bowling spell. Now, both of them will lock horns in the series decider on 20 August.
During the post-match presentation, Muhammad Waseem opened up on his batting approach along with praises on Aayan. He said: “(On his approach) I am very happy with the performance of my team and myself. We are always trying to win well when we win. (On Asif Khan) He is a quality player. Unlucky that he made his debut late. He has experience and he promised me that he will finish the game, and he did it. (On Aayan Afzal Khan) I see a big star in him. Hopefully he can be a future star for the UAE. He does not feel pressure, irrespective of who he is facing.”
