Nitish Rana, captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders, has responded inadvertently to his rejection from the forthcoming India tour of South Africa. Days after the Indian Cricket Board announced the teams for the white-ball as well as red-ball series, there was a response.
A number of names were floated for the six squads that were revealed. This also included India A teams, but Rana was not included in any of them. He posted a tweet saying, “Yakeen mano, yah saam bhi guzar jayegi (Believe me, this too shall pass).”
With an average of 33.83, Nitish Rana scored 203 runs across seven games throughout his respectable Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy season. In addition, he took four wickets.
Right now, Nitish is competing in the prestigious Vijay Hazare Trophy. After his comeback, he had three innings of undefeated 42, 0 and 8. He has taken four wickets with the ball, including 3/59 against Rajasthan.
With an average of 38.28 throughout 74 List A games, Rana recorded 2,259 runs overall, including three tonnes and fourteen half-centuries. The left-handed hitter in first-class cricket has amassed 2,507 runs with an average of 39.79 in 44 games, with six hundreds and eleven half-centuries.
In List A as well as FC cricket, the handy bowler who bowls part-time has also taken 51 and 24 wickets, respectively. Nitish scored 413 runs in 14 matches with a strike average of 140.96 in the 2023 Indian Premier League, including two half-centuries.
What does this selection snub indicate?
Team India's senior players have been granted a break prior to the white ball series that will take place during their tour of South Africa. Other players like Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli are included in the Test squad. The younger players including Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudarshan, and Rajat Patidar were able to secure a spot in the team under such circumstances.
Nitish Rana, who led the Kolkata Knight Riders as captain in 2023, was left out of the roster for both formats. If the left-handed batter is not even able to get into India’s second string side says a lot about his status in the Indian senior team.
