The 37th match of the Indian T20 league 2022 turned out to be a memorable one for Lucknow. They beat Mumbai by 36 runs. This was the KL Rahul-led side's fifth win of this edition. Besides, it was their skipper who led from the front.

Rahul went on to score his second hundred of this edition as he scored 103 runs from 62 balls. While the other Lucknow batters struggled, he single-handedly enabled his side to a respectable total. At the end, it proved to be enough as the Mumbai-based franchise failed to chase their target.

As a result, Rahul was named the player of the match award as well. However, Lucknow's skipper has been found guilty of committing a slow over-rate offence. It is to be noted that this isn't the first time he has been fined for the same in this edition. Thus, he has been fined INR 24 lakh. The rest of the Lucknow players have been fined INR 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their match fee.

If Rahul does go on to maintain a slow over-rate once again in this edition, he shall be handed a one-match ban. He and Rohit Sharma are the only captains to have been penalised for this offence twice in this season.

“Lucknow have been fined after they maintained a slow over-rate during their match against Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 24. This was the team’s second offence of the season under the Code of Conduct relating to a minimum over-rate offences. Lucknow captain, KL Rahul was fined Rs 24 lakhs and the rest of the members in the playing eleven were fined Rs 6 lakhs or 25 per cent of their match fee, whichever is lower,” read a statement released by the Indian T20 League.

As a matter of fact, Rahul saw this coming as he cited the same during the post-match presentation. After collecting his player of the match award, he stated that he will have to make up for all the fines he will be getting. The opener then drew light on how he bats according to the given situation.

"Will have to make up for all the over rates and fines I'm getting (with his Player of the Match awards). Trying to play according to the situation, see what's expected out of me. Enjoying batting, enjoying the responsibility. Fingers crossed I can keep doing the right things," said KL Rahul.
