On 22 June 2023, the one-off Ashes Test took place between England Women and Australia Women at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. Australia’s Men’s team already took a 1-0 lead over England’s Men’s team by defeating them in the first match in the ongoing Ashes. So, all eyes were on women and how they managed to start this match.

Speaking of the match, Alyssa Healy won the toss and opted to bat first. For them, Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield came out as openers. But, the opening stand stands for just 35 runs as Lauren Filer drew the first blood. Litchfield scored 23 runs off 32 balls, including four boundaries. 

Ellyse Perry missed the century by just one run

Then, at number three, Ellyse Perry came out to bat and for the second wicket, put up a partnership of 48 runs with Mooney. He scored 33 runs off 57 balls, including four boundaries. After that, Perry and Tahlia McGrath stitched a partnership of 119 runs for the third wicket as McGrath scored 61 runs off 83 balls, including eight boundaries. But, Perry continued to score runs freely as Australia were on 213 runs for three wickets after two sessions. However, Perry missed the chance to hit a century as she got out on 99 runs.

She went for a drive away from her body and got caught at the gully to Nat Sciver-Brunt. The Aussie batter was dejected as she was looking so good to get that milestone to her name. After that, Ashleigh Gardner scored 40 runs off 76 balls while Annabel Sutherland remained not out on 39* runs off 71 balls. Thus, the Aussies finished day one in a strong position with a score of 328 runs for seven wickets in 85 overs. For England, Sophie Ecclestone took three wickets for 71 runs in 31 overs. Apart from her, Lauren Filer took two wickets. Both Kate Cross and Lauren Bell grabbed one wicket each.
