Pakistan faced off against England in the third Test that kicked off on December 17, Saturday, only to lose by 8 wickets post setting a target of 167. The Three Lions crushed Babar Azam and his men on the back of an unbeaten 82 from Ben Duckett in their second innings and a century from Harry Brook in their first. As things stand, the fans started blasting the board and the team captain Babar for his indecisiveness that reflected on the pitch, eventually letting England take home the series win.
However, what hurt the fans was the whitewash as Babar and his men failed miserably to win a match in the series, facing the first whitewash in their 75 years history. Post the conclusion of the match, Babar said that the team cannot please anyone and added that he would stand up for other players if needed and would prioritize Pakistan above anything else.
“The door is not shut for anyone. There is a set plan for everything and we have it for every format. You can’t change things in a day or week. It takes time. For mindset to change, it takes time. Then, if we start playing defensively, journalists will ask why we don’t play aggressively and when we play aggressively, they ask why we don’t play the other way. There will always be questions, you can’t please everyone,” Babar was quoted as saying in the post-match press conference.
Shaheen Afridi faces heat for backing Babar Azam
Shaheen Afridi, the Pakistani pacer, was ruled out of the series on the back of an injury that he sustained during the recently concluded 20-20 World Cup 2022. Post the conclusion of the third Test, Shaheen took to his Twitter account to extend his support for the skipper and the team, only to face the heat later on.
Here is Shaheen Afridi’s tweet:
Babar Azam hamari or Pakistan ki Shan, jaan or pehchan hai. Wo Hamara kaptaan hai or rahe ga. Kuch or #sochnabhimanah hai.
