The action returned in the Women’s T20 League on Saturday night as Delhi took on Gujarat in the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. Notably, Delhi are coming into the game at the backdrop of a loss against high-flyers Mumbai and were hoping for a bounce back that they achieved comfortably. On the other hand, Gujarat’s struggles in the inaugural season of the premier franchise Cricket league continued, they have only won one of their four games in the season so far.
After winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, Gujarat batters got off to a disastrous start as both openers S Meghana and Laura Wolvaardt got out cheaply for individual scores of 0 and 1, respectively. Harleen Deol tried to anchor the innings but her could not covert her start to a big one, falling for 20 off 14 balls. Towards the end Georgia Wareham and Kim Garth with 22 and 32 respectively helped Gujarat cross the 100-run threshold. They could only manage 105/9 in their quota of 20 overs.
Shafali Verma and Marizanne Kapp remained the stars for Delhi
For Delhi, Marizanne Kapp remained the pick of the bowlers who completed a five-wicket haul, returning with figures of 5/15 in four overs. On the other hand, Shikha Pandey took a three-wicket haul with the figures reading 3/26. In reply, Delhi started off in flying form as they chased the target down in 7.1 over with 10 wickets, giving their net run rate a massive boost. Shafali Verma remained the star with the bat, knocking 76* off just 28 deliveries. Delhi are now placed second in the league table with 6 points from four games that includes three wins and on loss
Next, in the Women’s T20 League, UP will take on the unbeaten Mumbai. While are sitting atop the standing winning all three games in the league so far, UP are looking in good touch after their 10-wicket win against Bangalore. Mumbai will hope to keep their winning run intact. However, UP can be tricky opposition especially with Delhi putting the pressure on them with a win on Saturday.
