In the third ODI between India and Australia in Rajkot, the visitors won the toss and elected to bat first. Ahead of the game, both teams were expected to field their best playing XI. After all, they will play next on October 8. Meanwhile, in this game, the Aussies didn't make the same mistake as they did in Indore.

After choosing to bowl first, they were belted for 399 runs by the home side. Meanwhile, in this game, the former World Cup winners had a great start as David Warner and Mitchell Marsh put together 78 runs in just eight overs. The former scored 56 off 34 balls but his inning ended with a poor scoop shot attempt against Prasidh Krishna.

Despite this, the Yellow Brigade was going well with Marsh and Steve Smith putting together 137 runs in 18.5 overs. The former missed out on his hundred by just four runs after getting caught by Krishna. After his wicket, Smith and Marnus Labuschagne scored 74 and 72 respectively. After them, no batter was able to get a fifty. Also, the Asian side took six wickets in the last 22 overs.

At one point, the T20 World Cup 2021 winners looked like getting past 400 runs but were rather restricted to 352/7.

India started well but faltered in the middle overs

In reply, the two-time ODI World Cup winners asked Washington Sundar to open the batting with Rohit Sharma. Even though the former scored only 18 runs in 30 balls, he helped the team get a decent start. He might have made up for the poor start if not for Labuschagne taking a good catch at wide long-on.

At 74/1, the biggest match winners for the team, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma joined each other. They put together another 70 runs before Maxwell took a freak catch to send back Sharma (85). On the other hand, Kohli (56) trying to up the ante, lost his wicket to Maxwell. After these wickets, the chase was derailed although Shreyas Iyer (48) did play a decent hand. In the end, the team lost the game by 66 runs with Ravindra Jadeja getting 35 runs.
