The match between India and Pakistan has been called off for the day. As expected, rain had the last laugh in the arch-rivalry clash between the two teams in the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup 2023 in R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. As a reserve day was announced before the commencement of the match, the match has been shifted to the following day at the same venue.
There was a continuous interruption of rain in the match. From 4;45 PM till 8:30 PM there was a stoppage of play. The rain appeared, disappeared and repeated the cycle for more than 4 hours. As further play could not happen, the officials called the match to stop for the day. The innings of India will continue tomorrow at the same venue.
Even for tomorrow, the rain is expected to interrupt the match, which will be unfortunate for the fans. The match is set to begin at 3:00 PM with KL Rahul and Virat Kohli to resume the Indian innings. Currently, India is 147/2 after 24.1 overs. The fifties from Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill have kept India in the match against Pakistan.
A chance for both the teams to regroup
Opting to bowl first, Pakistan could not control the flow of runs. Barring Naseem shah, all the other bowlers went for runs. The opening batters of India came up with a plan and attacked the bowlers of Pakistan. The two batters settled in the middle and got fifty for themselves. Before getting dismissed, the duo scored 121 runs for the first wicket.
As the play will resume tomorrow, both the teams can play after regrouping themselves. Towards the middle overs phase of the game, the Indian batters seemed to struggle in the middle, as they could not rotate the strike. On the other hand, Pakistan can discuss about getting their lines and lengths right. The play might not be possible completely even tomorrow, given the forecast for the day. Fans will hope for a complete action on the reserve day.
