To assess the venues before approving the national team's journey to the adjacent nation for this year's ODI World Cup, Pakistan is planning to deploy a security delegation to India. The government, including the foreign and interior ministries, would determine when to send the security delegation to India once the new head of the Pakistan Cricket Board will be elected after the Eid holidays, according to an official source in the Inter-Provincial Coordination (Sports) Ministry.
"The security delegation will go with representation from the PCB to inspect the venues where Pakistan will play and also the security and other arrangements made for them in the World Cup," the source said. "Before any tour to India, it is standard practice for the cricket board to seek permission from the government which normally sends a delegation to India. The delegation will interact with the officials there and discuss and inspect with them the security and other arrangements for our players, officials, fans, and media, who will go for the tournament," he added.
A similar delegation was sent to India prior to the T20 World Cup
The official also revealed that the delegation will inspect all venues for Pakistan’s games which include Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will be the host for the marquee clash between India and Pakistan. If any concerns are noted by the delegation, it will share the same with the Indian Cricket Board and the Apex Cricket Council. "The PCB will share the report with the Apex Cricket Council and the Indian Cricket Board if the delegation has any concerns," the source noted.
Another source confirmed that a similar delegation was sent prior to the T20 World Cup as well. "It was on the recommendation of the delegation that Pakistan's match at Dharamsala against India was moved to Kolkata. "This is not unusual and it is standard procedure for all tours to India. Even in other sports, the respective national federations have to get clearance from the government to send their teams to India for any competition," the source maintained.
