The Asia Cup 2023 is all set to happen from 31 August to 17 September 2023. After a marathon of discussions, the tournament is finally set to take place as the Asia Cricket Council (ACC) accepted the proposed Hybrid model from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Pakistan, being the host, will host four matches while the other nine matches will be played in Sri Lanka. India are not willing to come to Pakistan due to political barriers. Hence, this model has been accepted.

Then, PCB Chairman, Najam Sethi played a huge role in managing this whole incident. Recently, he stepped down from that position and Zaka Ashraf is most likely to be the next PCB Chairman. However, on 21 June, reports came out that Ashraf, during a media interaction, said that he has rejected the Hybrid model and hence, the future of the tournament again can be in jeopardy. But, now, on 22 June, as per reports by ESPNCricinfo, Ashraf is most likely to accept the ‘Hybrid Model’ for Asia Cup 2023. Listening to that, fans shared their views on social media platforms.

"In my personal opinion, this whole hybrid model isn't beneficial for Pakistan” - Zaka Ashraf

He said that the model is not beneficial for Pakistan and for being the host nation, it should have been handled better. So that the tournament would have been played in the host nation only. Ashraf said: "In my personal opinion, this whole hybrid model isn't beneficial for Pakistan and I didn't like it. Being a host, Pakistan should have negotiated better to make sure that the entire tournament should have played in Pakistan. Sri Lanka taking the bigger lot of games, leaving Pakistan with only four games, isn't in the best interest of our country.”

But, he said that the decision is already made and now, they will honour that by blocking the tournament from happening. "But I see the decision has been made, so we have to go with it. I will not block or have any intention not to comply with the decision. I cannot do much about it but to honour the commitment. But going forward, every decision we make will be made for and in the interest of the country,” Zaka Ashraf concluded.
