England pacer Jofra Archer will not play any competitive cricket until next summer. The right-arm fast bowler has undergone a second surgery on his right elbow, which rules him out for a considerable period of time. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the news in a statement on Wednesday (December 22).
Archer has not played any cricket since England's tour of India. He was ruled out of India’s five-match Test tour of England. He also missed the UAE leg of the Indian T20 League (ITL) and 20-20 World Cup due to elbow issues.
According to a statement by ECB, the pacer went under the knife on Saturday (December 11). "The procedure addressed the long-standing stress fracture of his right elbow. A return to cricket will be determined in time, but Jofra will not be available for any of England's remaining Winter series," read a statement from ECB.
Earlier, Archer was optimistic about returning to competitive cricket before India's tour of England. However, the injury did not recover as expected. Archer has emerged as a genuine match-winner for England after a sensational run in the last two years. He made his debut in 2019 and played a major role in helping England lift the maiden 50-overs World Cup title. Later, he also played a vital role in helping England draw the Ashes 2-2 against Australia.
