In what comes as pleasant news, Jofra Archer has registered for the upcoming mega auction of the Indian T20 league. Earlier, it was reported that the speedster won't feature due to his injury. As a matter of fact, he has been out of action for quite a while now.
Not only did Archer miss the 20-20 WC 2021, but he also missed the Ashes 2021-22. However, the shortlisted players' list for the mega auction contains the English pacer's name as well. According to a report by Crictracker, it has been understood that the bowling all-rounder will be available to play from the 2023 edition.
As a result, if a franchise wants to buy him, then they'd only acquire his services for the sixteenth edition of the league. Archer has set a base price at INR 2 crore.
“The ECB has registered Archer for the auction with a view to potential participation in 2023 and 2024, as due to his current injury it is unlikely that he can participate in IPL 2022,” BCCI told all the teams.
In the meanwhile, as many as 590 players have been shortlisted from the 1214 players that had registered for the mega auction. This includes 44 new players, including the likes of Jofra Archer and Usman Khawaja, who have been added to the list. Another important point to be noted is the fact that the board has informed all the franchises that the auction process will be accelerated from player number 161.
“For your planning purposes please note, subject to timings it is envisaged that the accelerated process will start after player no.161. The first accelerated process will cover all the players from 162 – 590. Franchises will be asked to nominate a set number of players from this group by 10 pm on the evening of 12th February.
“Once these players (162-590) have been presented, franchises will be requested to submit the names of players (unpresented / unsold) from all those on the full list of 590 for further accelerated presentation. This will be covered in more detail at the auction briefing on 11th February 2022,” read. BCCI's email
