India and West Indies locked horns in the ninth game of the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2023 in Cape Town. Ahead of the game, the 2020 finalists, India were coming off a memorable win against their arch-rivals Pakistan. On the other hand, the 2016 winners, West Indies suffered a massive loss against the 2009 winners, England in their opening game of the tournament.

Meanwhile, in the game, the Maroon Brigade won the toss and elected to bat first. After winning the toss, Windies skipper Hayley Matthews said "Last time we didn't do too badly, batting first. The wicket looks good, one change, Karishma Ramharack comes in for Zaida James."

On the other hand, India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur said We wanted to bat today. Last time we chased, so just wanted to bat once. Smriti is back who loves to chase. Devika is back as well. The World Cup is important, and we just want to do well today."

Meanwhile, the decision to bat first turned out to be a disaster for the former champions. After losing the wicket of their skipper in the second over of the innings, they were recovering well. The likes of Staphanie Taylor and Shermaine Campbell put together 73 runs for the second wicket. However, after the partnership was broken, the team was reduced to 118/6 at the end of the innings.

For the Women In Blue, Deepti Sharma took three wickets. On the other hand, Renuka Thakur and Pooja Vastrakar took one each. In reply, India got off to a great start as Smrit Mandhana and Shafali Varma put together 32 runs in just 3.3 overs. However, India went from 32/0 to 43/3 in 7.1 overs. After this, the likes of skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh took the team close and put together 62 runs.

However, when the team needed four runs, the former got out. Eventually, the team chased down the target in 18.1 overs.
