Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans locked horns in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. In a closely fought match, CSK trumped GT by 15 runs and qualified for yet another IPL final. But one person who had a great performance on the field but not a good night of it was Mohit Sharma.
The Haryana pacer picked up 2-31 in his four overs. He also scalped the legend, MS Dhoni. Mohit bowled a hard length ball into the surface as MS Dhoni could only hit it straight to Hardik Pandya. For this, Mohit copped a lot of hate comments online on social media. Interestingly before 2023, Mohit's best years at the IPL came at CSK. The right-armer picked up 58 wickets in 48 matches at an average of 22.17 and at an economy rate of 7.81.
Gujarat Titans lost to Chennai Super Kings by 15 runs
The fans questioned Mohit Sharma's existence as a bowler and also asked him whether he was a fast bowler or a spin bowler. Some fans abused him to the hilt for getting MS Dhoni out at his adopted home ground. They also told him why he got MS Dhoni out since MS Dhoni had made Mohit Sharma's career. Mohit had a stint at CSK before donning the India Blue jersey in the 2015 World Cup.
Here are some of the comments:
Coming to the match, CSK had their tail up from ball one. A good powerplay and small but significant contributions meant that the Yellove Army mounted a total of 172-7 in their 20 overs. This was going to be a stiff target for GT in a big game on a pitch where the ball was not quite coming onto the bat. GT tried hard but the Hardik Pandya-led side losing wickets in clusters meant that GT fell short by 15 runs.
Ruturaj Gaikwad made a valuable 60 off 44 balls with seven fours and one six at the top of the order for CSK. Maheesh Theekshana, Deepak Chahar and Ravindra Jadeja picked up two wickets apiece to turn the game on its head and bowl CSK to an important win.
