Mumbai Indians (MI) had a good IPL 2023 after finishing the 2022 edition at rock bottom. They qualified for the playoffs and defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the eliminator. But, in qualifier two, they lost against Gujarat Titans (GT). However, Akash Madhwal was one of the breakout stars for them.

MI had an inexperienced bowling line-up as Jasprit Bumrah missed the entire season due to injury. Jofra Archer was there but also left the season mid-way due to injury. Chris Jordan came in as a replacement but failed to deliver on most of the occasion. But, it was Akash Madhwal who lit up the show in many games and repaid the faith Rohit Sharma showed in him.

Now, he shared an image of him stretching at home where many jerseys were seen framed on the wall behind him. One of the three jerseys was his won MI’s jersey. But, the rest of the two were of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), notably one was Virat Kohli’s. So, seeing that many fans went crazy as there was no sign of a jersey of the MI skipper Rohit Sharma. Hence, they shared their views on social media. In IPL 2023, Madhwal took 14 wickets in eight games, including a best figure of five wickets for just five runs.

That spell came against LSG in the eliminator and he won the Player of the Match award also. After that match, he said: "I was just practising, and waiting for this opportunity. I did my engineering and played tennis-ball cricket since it was my passion. Engineers have a tendency to learn early! I just practice, and that is what we execute. I'm proud of myself, but I'll try to be better." Meanwhile, it was Madhwal’s first IPL season despite being a part of IPL in 2019. He was a net bowler for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) that year.
