‘Jisko maan karein usko utha ke king bana dete hain’ - Fans react to Pakistan media for calling Umar Akmal ‘King’ while meeting Babar Azam

Umar Akmal is currently busy playing in the ongoing Pakistan Super League for Quetta Gladiators. On 5 March 2023, his team took on Islamabad United in Rawalpindi as it was the 21st match of the tournament. But, Akmal did not disappoint his fans as he scored 43* runs off 14 balls, including two fours and five sixes.

He batted at a staggering strike rate of 307.14. Fans went crazy after seeing such an inning and now, the Pakistan media shared an image where Umar Akmal was seen shaking hands with Babar Azam at an event. The caption drew the attention as they wrote: ‘ when (crown emoji) meets (crown emoji).”

It meant that they called both these players kings. Pakistan fans call Babar their king for his excellent contributions with the bat in recent years across all three formats. They started to call him King since the beginning of comparison with the former India skipper Virat Kohli. But, now, seeing the media calling Umar Akmal also a king, fans went crazy and shared their views on social media. Umar Akmal has scored 58 runs in three innings so far for Quetta Gladiators in the ongoing tournament. But, he last played for the Men in Green in 2019. 

Speaking about the match between Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United, Gladiators batted first and scored 179 runs for six wickets in 20 overs. Apart from that blistering knock from Umar Akmal, Mohammad Nawaz scored 52 runs off 44 balls and Najibullah Zadran scored 59 runs off 34 balls. In reply, Islamabad United scored 183 runs for eight wickets in 19.3 overs and won the match by two wickets. Colin Munro was the star of the show as he scored 63 runs off 29 balls, including five fours and four sixes. Fazalhaq Farooqi won the player of the match award for grabbing three wickets for 25 runs in four overs.
