Before the commencement of the mega auction, Ishan Kishan was one of those players who was expected to earn the big bucks this time around. Considering his talent and potential, he would have certainly been on the wish-list of several teams.
As a matter of fact, a few franchises like Mumbai and Hyderabad barely purchased any players during the first round, as they wanted to save their money for him. As expected, the moment his name was announced, both these two teams engaged in a tussle. The five-time champions and the 2016 winners engaged in a massive bidding war for Kishan.
However, before that, Gujrat and Punjab were the teams that started the bidding war. After which, Mumbai and Hyderabad engaged in an epic bidding battle. In the end, Kishan was sold for a whopping INR 15.25 crore to his former franchise.
It is to be noted that Kishan has been representing the Sharma-led side since 2018. However, his breakthrough season came in 2020. In the thirteenth edition of the league, he scored 516 runs in 14 games at an average of 57.33.
He hit four fifties in the season at a strike rate of 145.76 as well. The keeper-batter then took to social media to share his excitement over returning to his previous team. He said that Mumbai have always treated him like a family.
''I am really excited to be back again in MI and I know everyone has treated me like a family. I a really happy to be there and I hope I give my best, when I join my team'', Mumbai Indians twitter handle shared his reaction
''I am coming home to Aamchi Mumbai. Paltan I have missed you and I can't wait to reunite. We have made so many memories together but our story is just getting started. Thankyou to the owners and management for having faith in me. See you all soon'', sais Ishan Kishan in a video tweeted from his official twitter handle.
