The senior Indian domestic pacer Jaydev Unadkat earned a call-up to the Indian Test team last week after a long wait of 12 years since 2010 when he played his last and only against South Africa in centurion in December 2010. The Indian Cricket Board included the 31-year-old in the Indian squad for the Bangladesh Test series. The decision came from the Board as the senior pacer Mohammed Shami was ruled out of the series due to an injury.
But the wait feature for the pacer to play for India in a red-ball game at the highest level of the game might increase as he might miss the first Test in Chattogram against the hosts.
The media reports have learned about the delay of visa-related formalities in the case of Unadkat as this selection was done by Indian cricket at the last moment.
Here’s the update on Jaydev Unadkat’s availability:
“Unadkat is yet to reach Chattogram for the first Test. BCCI generally takes care of the visas of all the players who are in the reckoning for a spot in the squad in a bid to avoid delays in logistical issues. But in Unadkat's case, there was no pre-booking done owing to his unexpected selection. The report further added that BCCI is yet to receive his visa papers and the board's logistics department is making an effort so that Unadkat can reach Bangladesh,” reads a report from the Cricbuzz.
Unadkat’s unavailability for the first Test might clear the ways for the Haryana-based pacer Navdeep Saini to feature in the first Test under the captaincy of stand-in skipper KL Rahul. Apart from that, the visitors’ camp might also decide to field a third spinner in the playing XI instead of Navdeep Saini.
Notably, India will miss some big names in the first Test including the likes of skipper Rohit Sharma alongside star pacers Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah.
