In what comes as shocking news, Jason Roy has been banned by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). On Tuesday, the board announced their decision to ban the English opener for two games. The board also fined him 2,500 pounds. However, the reason for the same hasn't been revealed.
Meanwhile, Roy is also staring at a 12 month suspension if their is no improvement in his be behaviour. This news instantly became viral and fans were eager to know the reason behind the harsh call by ECB.
ECB released a statement regarding the same and stated that this sanction was imposed by the Cricket Disciplinary Commission. They also stated that Roy admitted the charge. "A disciplinary panel of the Cricket Discipline Commission has announced its sanction on Jason Roy after he admitted a charge of conducting himself in a manner which may be prejudicial to the interests of cricket or which may bring the game of cricket, the ECB and himself into disrepute, in breach of ECB Directive 3.3," read ECB's statement.
Roy was recently in the news for skipping the 15th edition of the Indian T20 league. He was purchased by Gujarat for his base price and was expected to feature in the playing XI for them. However, he cited bubble fatigue as the reason for him to not participate in the 2022 edition.
In the meanwhile, the 31-year-old was last seen playing for England during the T20I series against West Indies. It is unclear if he will be featuring in the upcoming ODI series against the Netherlands. If he does indeed not play, then it will be a huge loss for the Brits. Roy has been one of the most destructive openers in limited-overs cricket for quite a while now.
