The first of the two-match Test series between Pakistan and New Zealand has been started at the National Stadium in Karachi on Monday, 26th of December. The hosts’ skipper Babar Azam won the toss and decided to bat first against the Kiwis. Batting first, Pakistan faced some early blows as they lost their top three early on the score of only 48 runs.
But it was the time skipper Babar Azam took the charge himself. He first stitched a partnership of 62 runs for the fourth wicket with number five batter Saud Shakeel. Furthermore, the veteran wicketkeeper-batter Sarfaraz Ahmed accompanied Babar for a crucial and outstanding partnership of 196 runs for the fifth wicket.
Meanwhile, the 28-year-old Pak skipper also completed his century against the visitors on the first day of the Karachi Test. The ardent fans of the Lahore batting prodigy took to Twitter and lavished praises on him for a brilliant outing. Subsequently, Babar fans also went on to hit back at the haters and trollers who used to criticize him for a poor run of form with the bat earlier in the series against England.
Here's how Twitter reacted to Babar Azam’s fantastic ton:
Speaking of the match, Babar Azam’s men posted a score of 316 runs for the loss of five wickets in 89.1 overs. The last over of the day is underway at the time of filling this copy. Babar Azam is still standing unbeaten on an individual score of 160 runs. Before falling prey to Ajaz Patel, Sarfaraz Ahmed also contributed with a vital knock of 86 runs with nine boundaries to his name.
Ajaz Patel and Michael Bracewell have scalped two wickets each for the visitors on the first day of the match. Apart from these two, senior pacer Tim Southee has also claimed a wicket to his name on the opening day of the first red-ball fixture against Kane Williamson’s New Zealand.
