Chennai have now lost their sixth game of the Indian T20 league 2022. Their chances of making it to the playoffs now look slim. However, Punjab fans would certainly be happy after their team kept their calm and won an absolute thriller. The Mayank Agarwal-led side beat Chennai by 11 runs.
After being asked to bat first, Punjab's openers were careful, and didn't take too many risks. The conditions were once again difficult to bat on. Batters found it hard to get going. Thus, Punjab's skipper had to depart after scoring a 21-ball 18. Agarwal hasn't really been at his best in the 2022 edition so far.
However, Shikhar Dhawan decided to play the role of an anchor, and stood strong. He and Bhanuka Rajapaksa joined hands to score a 110-run partnership. As a matter of fact, the Sri Lankan batter rode his luck as he was dropped by Mitchell Santner in the 10th over. Due to this, Rajapaksa went on to score 42 runs off 32 balls.
It was only in the 18th over when he had to return to the pavilion. Nevertheless, Dhawan carried on as he went on to score an unbeaten 88 from 59 balls. Taking the pitch conditions into account, it was a really good knock. This enabled the Punjab-based franchise to score 187-4 in the first innings.
After which, the second innings saw Chennai's top-order struggle once again. They were only able to score 32 runs in the first six overs. Chennai's blue-eyed boy Ruturaj Gaikwad had to depart after scoring 30 runs, and consumed 27 balls for the same. Punjab's bowlers were right on the money, and were disciplined to say the least.
However, Ambati Rayudu kept playing the big shots, and instilled life into this chase. He scored a variant 78 from just 39 balls. His efforts weren't enough as the defending champions fell short of their target by 11 runs. Thus, Punjab won their fourth game of this edition. Several fans took to Twitter to speak about the game.
Here are some of the Tweets from today's game:
Liked how PBKS batted. Started in 1st gear, then went up the gears before going into overdrive. Earlier they used to start in 4th, then Livingstone used to take it to overdrive but others couldn't keep up which often resulted in a collapse. Batted @SDhawan25 👏🏽 #PBKSvCSK #IPL2022

Excellent gane awareness and selflessness by Dhawan and Bairstow on the last ball.

Always run that 1 extra run off the last ball!
Arshdeep, what a superstar he's been. To be this consistent at death, wow.

Dhoni, Jadeja and Fleming all three are responsible for this loss, should have come earlier than Jadeja who's looking clueless with the bat this season. #IPL2022

Punjab fans should be thankful for this Dhawan innings. You were missing such knock in the past which always led to huge collapses. This is the way u can nail the entry point of others.

Uthappa + Gaekwad + Jadeja + Santner = 54(63)

So you are expecting others to score 134(57) with the added pressure of wickets lost. Game was lost very early, magical innings of rayudu brought the game in balance. Arshdeep Singh comes in there.#csk #CSKvPBKS
