On 1 February 2023, team India were looking to win the decider in Ahmedabad against the Kiwis in the three-match T20I series. However, they managed to pull off a huge victory of 168 runs over New Zealand. Thus, they managed to win the series by a margin of 2-1. Hence, the Men in Blue won another series in the shortest format of the game under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy.
Shubman Gill was the star of the show as he notched up his maiden T20I ton in the match. For that magnificent knock, he won the player of the match award. However, Hardik Pandya managed to win the player of the series award for his all-around performance and tactical brilliance throughout the series.
“But since he's gone, all of a sudden, that responsibility is onto me.” - Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya has always looked to lead the team from the front. In recent series, he has been seen completing his full four-overs quota of bowling while having an opening spell in the powerplay overs. Some fans termed him a selfish captain for such an approach while some appreciated it. Now, after winning the series, n the post-match press conference, Pandya said: "I've always enjoyed hitting sixes. But that's life, I've to evolve. I've believed in partnerships and I want to give my batting partner and my team some assurance and calmness that I'm there. I've played more games than any of these guys, I've learned how to accept and swallow pressure and make sure everything is calm."
"Maybe I have to get my strike rate down for that. Taking on new roles is always something I look forward to. I want to take the new ball role too because I don't want anyone to come and take that difficult role. If they're under pressure, then we are chasing the game. I want to lead the front. I've been working on my new ball skills. I don't mind playing the role that somewhere down the line, Mahi used to play. At that time, I was young and hitting all around the park. But since he's gone, all of a sudden, that responsibility is onto me. I don't mind that. We are getting the results. It's okay if I have to play a little slow," Hardik Pandya concluded. However, fans found the statement interesting and started to troll him as he tried to compare himself with the former Indian skipper.
Here is how fans have trolled Hardik Pandya for his remark after the third T20I:

It would be great for the team if he plays like Hardik Pandya. Need not to copy Dhoni’s style. It will never suite in this modern day cricket.

Looks like HP going back one decade. Poor tactics!!! https://t.co/BOxZRaHZI0

I don't know if anyone agree or not but @hardikpandya7 is most selfish captain I have ever seen. He completes his own full spell but do not give sufficient chance to other bowlers and he says that he is inspired from MS Dhoni. 😅#INDvsNZ3rdT20 #HardikPandya𓃵

There is a big difference hardik dhoni can hit sixes to any bowler in the world in his prime be it malinga or Lee
— KESHAV JHA (@r_t_india1947) February 2, 2023
But you can only hit sixes to spinners & mediocre fast bowlers
Jaise hi saamne Archer , rauf , rabada jaise bowlers ayenge tere bat pe ball nhi lgti
Will he play tests
— Atharva Kulkarni (@AtharvaKulkaeni) February 2, 2023
Cause he is clocking 140-145 constantly
And it is good line and length
He will be an unprecedented asset for the test team
With due respect you are not even close to dhoni...
